Post Thanksgiving Health Scare

Image
Thanksgiving Eve took us to my sisters home for our annual Thanksgiving Eve Slumber party.  We stayed up late sipping wine, chased by coffee so we could stay up later, enjoying one another's company and being entertained by the kids. Thanksgiving Breakfast Thanksgiving day we had a leisurely breakfast as we prepared dishes for a lunchtime feast.  After spending the first part of the day at my sisters, we ventured to Scott's parents for the remainder of the day and to eat just a little more. As the Thanksgiving weekend came to a close, I noticed that Lila's hearing wasn't quite normal.  If she was looking at you, she could hear seemingly fine.  If she had her back to the speaker, she was completely unresponsive.  I pointed it out to Scott and he mentioned it probably had to do with a cold she battled on and off for the past month.  She hadn't had so much a sniffle in a week, but we agreed to watch her closely and see if it improved. Scott and I had...

Her Day, The BIG 3

Image
"I'm Free(3)!!"-Lila   This little girl was so excited to climb into bed, knowing in the morning she would be "3."  Although she is still undecided on if that makes her a "big girl" or if she's still a "little girl" she was excited to put up another finger to show people her age. She started her birthday week taking cupcakes to share with her friends and library staff during story/craft time.  After requesting (and eating) her favorite breakfast (oatmeal) on her birthday morning, we went to Donut Bank for donuts.  Nana and Daddy surprised our little 3 year old and she happily scarfed down sugary treats and opened a few surprises. Mini-breakfast party Our next stop was Toy's R Us!  Paisley got to celebrate his birthday a little early as the store gave both kids their birthday crowns and balloons.  I also let both kids pick out a birthday present.  I never walk into a toy store and let the kids pick something out, but I w...

Two-Rrific little Girl

Image
Baby L I remember looking at the ultrasound screen and knowing I was looking at our daughter before the ultrasound tech could say the words, "It's a girl!" I watched the itty bitty squiggly baby girl and felt excitement and fear.  Images of big bows, sassy attitudes, and spilled nail polish flashed through my brain.  Fast forward 2 years later....and all the images are true.  The fear I previously felt has turned to enjoyment, to pride, to immense love.  The little girl that scared me so much before she even weighed 1lb., has now turned 2. Birth                               2 Years 7 lbs 5oz                       24 lbs (14%) 19.5 inches                   28 inches (9%) This little doll rises and shines around 7am each and every day.  She'll start singing, talking to her...

Then They Were 2 & 4

Image
Our son As August rolls around, I begin telling our children the stories of their births.  Paisley is more interested than Lila, often saying "Tell me about when you met me."  I happily recap the excitement his daddy and I felt, how we were a little nervous, and how hearing him cry was the best sound I ever heard.  It makes him smile to hear about his "birth" day.  After the kids go to bed Scott and I reminisce over the more serious parts of his "birth."  We can (sorta) laugh now about the difficulty and stress that getting him here caused.  Knowing how it all turned out, I'd do it again a hundred times over. Our daughter The party planning had began months ago and once again we planned a combined party for our August angels.  Our invitations invited family and friends to a Paw-ty.  Paisley picked Paw Patrol (a show about a pack of helpful pooches and Lila wanted a Hello Kitty party.  We rented a huge water slide from a local infla...

When the Baby won't Sleep...

Image
Neither does mommy... She went down at 7pm just like every other night.  I knew her teeth were bothering her as she has white caps poking up through every bare space of gum.  The nightmare (for me) began around mid-night.  I had been asleep for roughly 2 hours and I hear her fussing.  I gave it a minute because it's not unusual to hear a little fuss out of her, then she goes right back to sleep.  This time, she fussed for a few minutes before she began hollering "mommy."  I knew this was not a good sign. I went in her room and kissed her head (no fever, thank goodness).  I gave her a drink a water and tucked her back in.  I told her it was "night night" and she needed to sleep.  She responded with a "Uh-huh" and I slipped out of her room.  All was quiet as I slipped back in bed. I fell asleep quickly thinking all was well. At 1am the screaming started again.  My brain was immediately thrust back to when I was woken every fe...

Babies Don't Keep

Image
Her first day of life  I love reading fellow mom blogs!  They help me reflect on pregnancy, having an infant, and the various milestones my children have reached.  They also remind me to slow down and enjoy these fleeting moments. The other day I noticed the phrase "Babies don't keep..." on one of my favorite pages.  A million emotions were triggered with those 3 words.  It's so true. Lovely Lila is right at 1 1/2.  She's a petite little thing weighing in at barely 19 lbs.  Everywhere we go people ask how old she is (as she walks around strutting her stuff) and always say "She's tiny!" after I tell them her age.  She can still wear 6-12 month clothing and size 2 shoes are a bit big.  Despite her tiny stature, she eats more then her brother on a daily basis! As soon as she wakes in the mornings she wants to "eat."  This might even be her favorite word.  She tells me if she wants cereal, oatmeal (pronounced moat-meal) ...

The Business of Motherhood

Image
Today is beautiful day for many reasons.  The children woke up in good moods, they both wanted items for breakfast that were stocked and waiting in the cabinets, and when it was time to get dressed, there wasn't much protesting (just one small "...but I'm still playing."  This is how a great day in the life as a mom starts out. Today was Kindermusik day for Paisley.  He started music when he was 18 months.  Prior to this fall, it was a class that he and I took together.  The class brought Paisley (for the most part) out of his bashful shell and was a great way for me to meet other moms.  Since he turned 3 in August, he moved up to the 3-5 class which meant he took the class by himself while I sat in the lobby. At first he did good.  He went in without issue and while I know he was the shadow of the teacher, he was fine with class.  Then a couple weeks ago something changed and he said he no longer liked the class, asking if he could stop ...
