School's Out for Summer

Image
I hope you read the title as if you were hearing Alice Cooper sing his hit from 1972, "Schools Out." Pre-school 2014 I could ask where the time went, except I know exactly where it went. It slipped past us while we've been outside enjoying the spring weather. It crept around us while we've been at the ballpark 2 nights a week. It blew through our hair while we planted flowers and pulled weeds, and dripped off us like water from the slip in slide. We've been soaking it up in daily routines, only taking time to notice its passing as a milestone pops in front of us, causing us to notice the date on the calendar. This milestone of completing pre-k isn't monumental. He's not going to a different school this fall or taking a job that has him moving out of our home. He's taking the step of partial school days 3 days a week to being at school all day everyday.  It's not monumental, but it's big.  A change for all of us. This boy...the boy th...

Back to School and our Pencils are Sharp!

Image
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a nervous wreck the first day of Pre-K.  It's not because it was Paisley's first time going to school or because I was worried he wouldn't do well; we were entering into a "big" school, the local elementary school.  Gone were the days of the private nursery school and here we were with supply lists and book fees.  I wasn't ready, but the little guy was.  And that's all that mattered. I think I was embarrassing him The day before his first day of school, Paisley asked if we could run into town to get a few things he "needed" for school.  Knowing we had already purchased his school supplies, I asked what items he needed.  His response, "bath gel (peach scented) and a haircut."  How could I deny a boy who wanted to be well groomed and smell good? Scott and I were very upbeat and excited towards Paisley about his first day at his new school.  I swallowed my fear and put on a smile as we ate a ...

His Day, the BIG 5!!

Image
On the eve of our boy turning 5, I can't help but go back to the night in the hospital before his birth.  The clarity of the details of the evening and early morning hours are so crystal clear.  I can feel the emotions that coursed through my body and the energy of the operating room as I was quickly brought in.  I am so grateful to remember those details so strongly and welcome their visit on this one night a year. Earlier in the day, we kicked off his celebration and headed into town.  He picked Mr. Gatti's for lunch followed by a trip to the mall to ride the carousel.  Since he will spend 1/2 of his birthday at school, I wanted to let him do a few fun things the day before!  I'm pretty sure he thinks 2 days of celebrating are the norm! Our sweet 5 year old birthday boy rolled out of bed with a smile on his face.  He knew it was a big deal to be 5.  I swear he even looked a little taller!  He requested breakfast at Denny's and Nan...

Entering the World of Children's Sports *gulp*

Image
The sheet of paper slid out of his backpack with ease, as if this was all written in the stars and supposed to be happening.  I read over the words and looked back to his backpack, making sure he hadn't grabbed one of the older children's by mistake.  The moment caught me off guard and my eyes fell on my little boy.  Was he really old enough for t-ball sign-ups? Lil Slugger Growing up I played sports and loved watching baseball.  My husband also grew up in an athletic family that played sports, so naturally we knew the time would come for our offspring to play.  I just didn't expect it to happen so soon.  Scott took our boy to sign ups while I stayed home with baby sister.  A few weeks later we received a text from his coach (a guy Scott went to high school with), a practice and game schedule, and a list of his teammates.  Paisley was happy to see 2 names on his teammate list that he knew from school.   Being that Scott and I...

Then he turned 4

4 years old and so very loved The way his blue eyes sparkle will stop you in your tracks.  The way his mouth turns up into a grin makes smiling contagious.  The way his blonde hair shimmers in the sun will make you think there's gold mixed in.  The amount of joy he has brought to our lives...indescribable.   At Birth                         4 Years 6lbs 5.9oz                     36lbs    19 inches                    34 inches Newborn Baby P He rolls out of bed around 6:45 and wants to cuddle for a few minutes before asking for breakfast.  I love the way his hair sticks up crazy and how he looks in his little truck jammies.  I hope he lets me dress him in matching top and pant jammies for another 4 years.  He wants cereal for breakfast, every morning.  His favo...

Then They Were 2 & 4

Image
Our son As August rolls around, I begin telling our children the stories of their births.  Paisley is more interested than Lila, often saying "Tell me about when you met me."  I happily recap the excitement his daddy and I felt, how we were a little nervous, and how hearing him cry was the best sound I ever heard.  It makes him smile to hear about his "birth" day.  After the kids go to bed Scott and I reminisce over the more serious parts of his "birth."  We can (sorta) laugh now about the difficulty and stress that getting him here caused.  Knowing how it all turned out, I'd do it again a hundred times over. Our daughter The party planning had began months ago and once again we planned a combined party for our August angels.  Our invitations invited family and friends to a Paw-ty.  Paisley picked Paw Patrol (a show about a pack of helpful pooches and Lila wanted a Hello Kitty party.  We rented a huge water slide from a local infla...

My Blue Eyed (little/big) Boy

Image
Hello there little guy So there's this 32 lb. boy that wakes me up each morning.  Typically he goes to his daddy's side of the bed, but if he doesn't feel good or he's had an accident, he'll come to my side.  He typically says something like "The sun is up!" or "Is it time to get up?"  He likes everyone to be out of bed and the blinds to be opened.  This happens between 6:30-7 each morning. He appears with groggy blue eyes that despite showing sleepiness still hold a hint of mischievous.  His hair is a disheveled mess of light brown with a sprinkle of golden hairs that look like spun silk.  His dinosaur jammies are getting shorter on his long legs each day, showing just how quickly this little guy is growing. Snuggles This sweet little boy has eyes that are bigger then his stomach.  He likes to fill his bowl with cereal or oatmeal, but has a hard time eating everything he "thinks" he needs.  He has his picky days where no...

The Business of Motherhood

Image
Today is beautiful day for many reasons.  The children woke up in good moods, they both wanted items for breakfast that were stocked and waiting in the cabinets, and when it was time to get dressed, there wasn't much protesting (just one small "...but I'm still playing."  This is how a great day in the life as a mom starts out. Today was Kindermusik day for Paisley.  He started music when he was 18 months.  Prior to this fall, it was a class that he and I took together.  The class brought Paisley (for the most part) out of his bashful shell and was a great way for me to meet other moms.  Since he turned 3 in August, he moved up to the 3-5 class which meant he took the class by himself while I sat in the lobby. At first he did good.  He went in without issue and while I know he was the shadow of the teacher, he was fine with class.  Then a couple weeks ago something changed and he said he no longer liked the class, asking if he could stop ...

So there's this Boy....

Image
He's long and lean with little muscular legs.  His hair curls after the shower or when he sweats in his sleep.  His skin is powder white but tans quickly in the sun.  His round blue eyes dance when he laughs and can show pure mischief as he plots taking a toy from his sister.  He's the boy I prayed for as he grew in my tummy and the first person to call me mommy.   He's wonderfully independent and dependent all at the same time.  He can pick out what outfit he wants to wear, but he can't quite figure out how to get his shirt off.  He sleeps in a big boy bed, but he still lets his momma rock him at night while singing his favorite lullaby. He drives toy cars and trucks around the living room with a seriousness that makes it hard for me to keep a straight face.  He references broken carburetors, flat tires, running out of gas, and the inability to find a parking spot.  I could watch him play for hours. He loves for me to w...
